iPhone/iPad

 

With a home button :

 Press sleep/wake button and home button at the same time (see left above)

 

Without a home button: 

Press side sleep/wake button (iPhone)/top button (iPad) and volume up button at the same time (see right image above)

Android (phone/tablet)

Taking a screenshot on an Android device can differ between manufacturers, but pressing power + volume down, or power + home button (if your device has one) should work on most.  

 

If it doesn't, you'll need to check with your manufacturer for specific instructions for your device. 

 

Windows Tablet (Surface)

The instructions for PC (Windows) will work on a Windows tablet, but pressing the Volume Up + Power buttons at the same time will also take a screenshot.

Chromebook

All Chromebooks (as long as the software is later than 2021) have a screenshot tool.  Click on on the bottom right of the desktop to open 'Quick Settings', and choose Screen Capture. This allows you to capture the full screen, part of it or a specific window. 

 

If you don't have this, options will depend on the manufacturer:

 

Some will have a screenshot key (looks like a camera). 

 

Others require to to press Shift + Ctrl + Show Windows (box with lines beside it), then select 'Screenshot'. This will allow you to select all or part of the screen (or a specific window). 

 

In tablet mode, press the Power + volume down buttons at the same time to capture a screenshot. 

Mac

Open Screen Capture window: 

Press Command +Shift + 5, or navigate to Launchpad>Other>Screenshot

 

The screen capture window will appear and will give you the option to capture the entire screen, a part of it or a specific window. 

 

Keyboard shortcuts:

Command + Shift  + 3: captures the entire screen

 

Command + Shift + 4: turns the cursor into a crosshair, so you can select the part of the screen you want to capture. 

PC (Windows)

Open Snipping Tool (type this into the search bar on the taskbar in Windows 10/11, or in the start menu for Windows 7/8, to find it!)

 

 

 

Click 'New' - screen will dim and the cursor will turn into a crosshair so you can select the part of the screen you want to take a screenshot of

 

 

Click the save icon in the top right-hand corner to save the screenshot (save it somewhere you'll find be able to find it easily when you want to send it by email!)
